The Mission
Bank Mendes Gans (BMG) is a specialized wholesale bank and a wholly owned subsidiary of ING Group, focused on delivering advanced cash management, liquidity management, and transaction banking solutions to multinational corporations around the world. Combining deep financial expertise with innovative technology, BMG helps global organizations optimize working capital, centralize treasury operations, and manage complex international cash flows efficiently and securely.

Your day to day
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will be a key contributor in a multidisciplinary, self-sufficient squad responsible for designing, building, operating, and continuously improving BMG's global treasury and transaction banking platforms. You will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, peer DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders to translate complex treasury requirements into scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions.
Design, develop, test, and maintain business-critical applications across both frontend and backend components.
Build modern APIs, integration services, and user-facing functionality that support BMG’s liquidity and information management solutions.
Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design decisions.
Ensure software is secure, maintainable, scalable, and resilient by design.
Drive continuous improvement of code quality through code reviews, automated testing, refactoring, and engineering best practices.
Take ownership of services throughout their entire lifecycle, from development to production operations.
Monitor application health, investigate incidents, troubleshoot production issues, and lead root cause analysis activities.
Improve observability, alerting, reliability, and operational resilience of your services.
Participate in on-call and production support rotations where required.
Continuously reduce operational overhead through automation and self-healing capabilities.
Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate software development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and knowledge discovery.
Apply critical thinking and engineering judgment when using AI-generated outputs.
Contribute to responsible AI adoption by ensuring compliance with ING security, privacy, and governance requirements.
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive activities and improve team productivity through AI-enabled workflows and modern engineering tooling.
Risk, Governance & Resilience
Ensure adherence to technology governance, risk management, security, DORA, resilience, and compliance requirements.
Continuously improve engineering controls related to security, operational risk, resiliency, disaster recovery, and service continuity.
Ensure teams are audit-ready and maintain appropriate documentation and evidence of compliance.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand customer journeys and treasury processes.
Share knowledge, mentor less experienced engineers, and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
Participate actively in squad ceremonies, technical communities, and cross-team initiatives.
Act as a team player, with honesty and openness and foster an environment of mutual trust, accountability and transparency.
Continuously grow your expertise in software engineering, cloud technologies, integration patterns, DevOps, and financial services.
Challenge existing solutions and propose improvements that increase system quality, customer value, reliability, or engineering efficiency.

What you’ll bring to the team
Experience:
8+ years of software engineering in JVM language and related technology stack
Tech stack/ knowledge:
Mandatory:
Strong engineering foundation with hands-on experience in Java 21, Spring Boot 4.x and Spring Framework suite, JPA/Hibernate, APIs (REST, gRPC, etc), UI technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, accessibility, security) and UI frameworks (ideally Lit-Html or either of Angular, React, Vue, Svelte)
Strong knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and integration middleware (JMS, Kafka)
Good knowledge of relational databases (MS SQL Server or Oracle) and ability to fine tune database models and data intensive operations
Ability to write clean and maintainable code
Good knowledge of source control, CI/CD and documentation tools (Azure DevOps, Git, Maven, Confluence) and ability to define CI/CD pipelines and manage DevOps related activities during software development lifecycle
Have a mentality to test your code using various frameworks like Junit, Mockito or BDD testing frameworks like JGiven, Cucumber or Karate)
Knowledge of Playwright framework for web testing and automation
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes using OpenShift as orchestration
Knowledge of various communication protocols like HTTP1/2, Messaging, RPCs, etc.
Knowledge of Domain Driven Design (DDD) and ability to design systems in this paradigm
Familiarity with different architecture patterns (i.e. monolith vs microservices)
Strong analytical skills, proactivity, and ability to work in cross-border international teams
Excellent Stakeholder Management skills
Demonstrates independent thinking and decision-making abilities, with a keen eye on quality
Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
Nice to have:
Performance testing with tools like JMeter, Gatling
Exposing meaningful metrics to have proper monitoring and alerting and ability to perform profiling to better understand the application
Familiarity with Elastic stack and how to query logs
Experience or affinity with IT Security concepts
Experience with other JVM languages or other programming languages like Kotlin
Foreign languages: English (advanced)
Education: Completed Education at Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background, in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering or equivalent

Über zehn Millionen Menschen in Deutschland haben ihr Konto bei der ING. Eine Filiale, in die man dafür gehen könnte, gibt es nicht: Die Bank arbeitet seit ihrer Gründung 1965 ohne Schalterhalle, damals per Post und Telefon, heute per App. Gearbeitet wird trotzdem an vier Standorten, mit rund 6.000 Kolleginnen und Kollegen und dem Hauptsitz in Frankfurt am Main.
Im Privatkundengeschäft drehen sich zwei Themen besonders oft: das Girokonto und die Finanzierung der eigenen vier Wände. Ende 2025 lagen 101,5 Milliarden Euro an Baufinanzierungen in den Büchern, und 3,2 Millionen Wertpapierdepots wurden geführt. Nach eigenen Angaben ist die ING damit, gemessen an der Kundenzahl, die drittgrößte Bank Deutschlands. Ein zweiter Geschäftsbereich betreut Unternehmen, vom Mittelständler bis zum international tätigen Konzern.
Die Geschichte reicht weiter zurück, als der digitale Auftritt vermuten lässt. 1965 startete das Haus als Bank für Sparanlagen und Vermögensbildung, verschickte seine Kredite zunächst per Brief und bot in den Achtzigern über Bildschirmtext erste Bankgeschäfte vom Wohnzimmer aus an. Mitte der Neunziger kam mit dem Namen DiBa das Online-Banking. 1998 stieg die niederländische ING Group ein, seit 2003 gehört die Bank vollständig zum Konzern, der weltweit mehr als 60.000 Menschen beschäftigt und in über 100 Ländern tätig ist. Der Rechtsträger heißt bis heute ING-DiBa AG mit Sitz in Frankfurt am Main, im Markt tritt er seit 2018 als ING Deutschland auf.
Entsprechend viele Berufe sitzen hier zusammen, die man nicht sofort mit einer Bank verbindet. Entwicklerinnen und UX-Designer bauen an App und Website weiter, im Controlling und im Risikomanagement wird gerechnet, im Kundendialog beantworten Teams Fragen am Telefon und im Chat. Wer nach der Schule einsteigt, kann drei bis dreieinhalb Jahre dual studieren, etwa Wirtschaftsinformatik oder User Experience Design. Danach folgen Trainee- und Talentprogramme für Hochschulabsolventinnen und -absolventen. Neben Frankfurt wird in Berlin, Hannover und Nürnberg gearbeitet; wie sich die Belegschaft auf die vier Standorte verteilt, veröffentlicht die Bank nicht.
Das Arbeitsmodell ist hybrid. Zur Weiterbildung gehören eine interne Lernplattform, Inhouse-Trainings und externe Seminare, dazu kommen ein Gesundheitsbudget von 500 Euro im Jahr und bis zu 30 Tage Arbeiten im EU-Ausland. Wer zu Hause am Schreibtisch sitzt, bekommt 1.500 Euro Ausstattungsbudget dafür.
